CCR Advanced Mix Gas Diver
The highest level of Closed Circuit Rebreather training.
General Information
The highest level of Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) training that is offered, the Advanced Mixed Gas Course will teach you how to use the full capabilities of a CCR. With a maximum depth of 100 meters, this course opens a whole new realm of diving including new wrecks, caves and walls to explore in depths you previously could not reach on a rebreather. This intensive course will focus on all the elements needed to plan and execute dives to these depths.
eCCR / mCCR
We offer courses focused on eCCR and mCCR rebreathers in backmount and sidemount configuration. We tailor the course content and setup to the specific type of unit and the diver's level.
Rebreathers we have experience with include, for example, Submatix Quantum CCR, AP Inspiration and AP Evolution CCR, Poseidon SE7EN+, SF2, Flex CCR, X-CCR, JJ-CCR, Liberty CCR, Revo CCR, T-REB CCR, Triton CCR.
Availability of a specific unit and the possibility of running the course on that type of rebreather must be confirmed individually in advance.
Shark Divers is not the manufacturer of the equipment listed above, and the mention of a specific equipment name is solely for identification purposes.
What Qualifications Do I Need?
- Option A (6 dive course): Minimum 18 years of age, certification as CCR Level II Extended Range (air) Diver or equivalent plus a minimum of 50 hours dive time with the CCR following completion of Level II training (with no less than 20 hours at depths beyond 35m).
- Option B (4 dive course): Minimum of 18 years of age, certification as CCR Level II Extended Range (normoxic Trimix) Diver or equivalent plus a minimum of 50 hours dive time with the CCR following completion of Level II training (with not less than 20 hours deeper than 35m, 5 hours of which must be normoxic Trimix dives).
- Or: certification as OC Trimix Diver (or equivalent) plus a minimum of 100 hours dive time logged with the CCR and 40 dives deeper than 40m
- You will need to fill out a self-certification medical statement.
- If you have any medical conditions you think may prevent you from scuba diving, please feel free to contact us and we will try to be of assistance.
What Makes A Class Different?
- More knowledge!
- More Practical Skills & Emergency Drills
- Focus on have better, more comfortable and safer divers
Course Duration
- Option A: 6 days (6 dive course)
- Option B: 4 days (4 dive course)
What's In The Course?
All theoretical and practical aspects of TRIMIX diving related to the appropriate CCR. Amongst other themes, the theory covers:
- Physiological and psychological aspects of deep mixed-gas diving
- Decompression planning
- Equipment configuration for multiple bailout cylinders
- Use of bail-out gases
- Safe dive practices and emergency procedures with the rebreather
An important point is the planning and calculation of deep dives with decompression software as well as computer-based diving tables, etc. The training dives include the proper planning, gas analysis and labelling, equipment familiarization (removal, replacement and use of travel/deco mix bail-out stages) emergency and out-of-gas procedures (bail-out, rescue ascent, etc.), ascent reel and lift bag deployment, and proper CCR decompression techniques.
Practice In Water
For Option A the practical part of the course includes 6 dives over 6 days, with a minimum accumulated in-water time of 360 mins.
For Option B the practical part of the course includes 4 dives over 4 days, with a minimum accumulated in-water time of 240 mins.
The dives should include the proper planning, gas analysing and labelling, equipment familiarization (Travel/Deco mix bottles removal/replacement) emergency and out-of-air procedures (Gas sharing, Rescue ascent, etc.), ascent reel and lift bag deployment, and proper decompression techniques.
- Perform loss of gas drill.
- Simulate bailout procedures. (SCR, OC and Buddy OC).
- Ascend using bailout for at least 9 msw from a depth of at least 60 msw. Record time lapsed and gas used.
- Perform SCR bailout for minimum of 10 minutes on at least one dive.
- Exchange of stage cylinders or long hose to a dive buddy who has used 50% of their bailout.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all skills on the CCR diver skills tables as well as all skills in the CCR.
- React to simulation of oxygen by pass due to faulty manual addition valves or switching assemblies.
- Deploy and use a SMB.
- While swimming, demonstrate efficient switch to stage cylinder regulators.
- Remove stage cylinders and swim a distance of at least 5 meters. Reverse direction, return to stage cylinders and replace them on correct sides, identifying each cylinder by feel.
- Simulate the rescue of a diver. Tow the diver on the surface for a distance of at least 12 meters while simulating mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Go through EMS procedures and remove equipment from victim in the water (equipment removal must be accomplished in less than 1½ minutes).
